If your answer to any of these questions is “no”, maybe after reading this post you will feel a little bit more curious about venturing into the blogosphere, either as an active blogger or just as a blog reader.

The concept of blogging has evolved from a series of webpages that people used to keep as online diaries to log their thoughts, ideas and opinions on a regular basis. That’s why the term blog originally comes from the combination of the words web and log. However, the real origins of the blog genre can be traced back to the act of writing in personal diaries and private journals. With the rapid emergence and development of new technologies and web-2.0 toolspeople have re-invented the habit of writing in diaries and journals and they have turned to social media to make their thoughts and ideas public to be able to share them with the widest possible audience of online readers.

Over time, blogs have become extremely popular because they have turned into powerful tools of self-expression. Web scientists and sociologists believe that blogs have created the context for a unique global experience to take place because they have offered blog users the opportunity to express themselves freely on the web, make their opinions public and connect with other people from all over the world. In general, bloggers have the feeling that the blogosphere represents the virtual place where their thoughts and ideas come to life for the whole world to see, and this perspective has encouraged them to develop a sense of empowerment and self-fulfilment. Also, they feel that they belong to a special community where all the members have the same driving force: freedom of expression. By telling stories, giving opinions and sharing audiovisual material, bloggers have found an interesting and effective way to make their voices heard and get themselves noticed in the vast universe of blogs. In this way, they have become creative producers and influential communicators who share their own experiences with the whole world.
